INTRO TO BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU - 2026 - WINNIPEG, MB
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the INTRO TO BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU on 28 JUL & 04 AUG 2026 is now open.
The application deadline is 28 JUNE 2026 at 2345 hrs central time.
AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On, in collaboration with the Winnipeg Academy of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) will host the Intro to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu event on 28 Jul and 04 Aug 2026. The goal of this activity is to provide ill or injured active and retired CAF members with the opportunity to learn the basics and practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as part of their recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration. Regardless of their skill level, participants will benefit from expert guidance to develop their movements and martial arts techniques in a professional environment and facility.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the Winnipeg and surrounding area (100 km) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate.
DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Tuesday 28 Jul 2026:
-0945 hrs: Arrive,
-1000-1115 hrs: BJJ class,
-1115-1130 hrs: wrap up and depart.
Tuesday 04 Aug 2026:
-0945 hrs: Arrive,
-1000-1115 hrs: BJJ class,
-1115-1130 hrs: wrap up and depart.
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 1.5 hours of high paced activities. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
All participants must have basic mobility and coordination, the ability to transition from laying down to standing without assistance, and the ability to follow instructions in a simulated combat stance.
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
Please note that actual combat will not be permitted during this event. However, there will be physical contact during technical and skill based exercises.
